Travellers to Wales and South West England from Catalunya can take advantage, from the end of March 2012, of the new Vueling service to Cardiff from Barcelona. Initially scheduled for a thrice weekly service, the route has been welcomed with open arms by Patrick Duffy, Cardiff Airport’s Managing Director, who declared: “It is extremely pleasing to welcome a new airline and a new route to Cardiff Airport. The Vueling service can be of great benefit to the region as the airline will not only offer Welsh passengers the chance to visit one of Europe’s most famous cities but can also bring inbound passengers into Wales which will consequently benefit the Welsh economy." Vueling is Spain's leading low cost airline and is based in Barcelona from where its services radiate to more than 40 European and North African destinations. Vueling CEO, Alex Cruz, commented: “Vueling is very pleased to be able to fulfil the local catchment area’s requirement for direct flights to Barcelona for leisure and business travellers... we anticipate the route will be popular for leisure travellers looking for convenient city breaks. There’s also a high student population within easy reach, so overall we are expecting high load factors... There is a strong possibility that more UK routes will be announced soon.” Barcelona is one of the most popular city break destinations in Europe with its cultural appeal, and as the launching point for several Mediterranean cruises. It also has a modern convention centre that has quickly become established as a popular conference venue. Business travellers on Vueling flights are treated to readily accessible hand luggage space, preferential boarding and online check in at some airports, and a complimentary drink and snack. Leisure travellers can enjoy seat selection, loyalty point collection schemes and gift vouchers for Vueling flights. Now that's something to add to the "Dear Santa" list!
